MEKRA Lang site in Mexico burnt down

MEKRA Lang's Mexican site in Escobedo, Monterrey (Mexico) caught fire on the evening of April 10 (local time). The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Fortunately, there were no personal injuries. All employees were evacuated. Three of them were taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, but were released shortly afterwards.

The fire spread very quickly to all production areas due to strong winds. The company's own firefighters, the fire departments of the neighboring companies and the local fire departments were on site very quickly and, according to their own statements, had the fire completely under control by the next day. However, as there were still small pockets of fire, an initial inspection was not possible until the weekend.

The cause and extent of the damage is not yet known. However, most of the tools for plastics technology have been salvaged.

Almost 500 employees at MEKRA Lang Mexico work with products destined for the North American market.

Delegation from Germany supports local management on site

Managing Director Dr. Werner Lang and a small team have already been in Mexico since Thursday to coordinate the emergency measures and the restoration of production capacity together with the local management. The search for new buildings in Mexico has already begun and the aim of the company and its employees is to resume production as soon as possible. The extent to which individual product lines can also be manufactured in Germany is currently being examined.
