MEKRA Lang continues to grow. Instead of a new building and further sealing of areas, the management and site management of MEKRA Lang GmbH & Co. KG are relying on existing resources in the immediate vicinity of the Ergersheim site. A total of six halls, the former office building and the parking lot of the former Magna plant have been rented by MEKRA Lang since the middle of last year. This means that the company now has a further 10,000 square meters of additional production and office space at its disposal.
Since mid-September, the entire metalworking department has moved into the old Magna plant and is filling the halls with life again. The subsidiary MEKRAtronics, which sells camera monitor systems for the retrofit sector, has also moved from Ergersheim to the Bad Windsheim plant and is mainly located in the office space.
Conversion for the new tenants
Over 120 days were spent remodeling the plant, whose foundation stone was laid in 1982 and which was closed after almost exactly 40 years. In addition to MEKRA Lang and MEKRAtronics, other companies have also moved into the former Magna plant in Burgbernheimer Strasse in Bad Windsheim.
At the inauguration ceremony on April 10 in the halls, the management of MEKRA Lang, Bad Windsheim's mayor Jürgen Heckel and the landlords from Westkämper GmbH celebrated the new location together with the Bad Windsheim workforce and everyone who helped with the move. In his speech, site manager Bernd Dehner looked back on the beginnings and the course of the negotiations.
After an initial inspection in January 2023, it quickly became clear to those responsible that the available space in Bad Windsheim could be put to very good use.
In his short speech, Bad Windsheim's mayor Jürgen Heckel honored the MEKRA Lang Group as "something very special" for the region. He recalled the history and development of the initially small company from Ergersheim into what is now the world market leader in vision systems for commercial vehicles. He also paid tribute to all the employees. After all, they are responsible for the company's success. "I am delighted that you want to continue this successful model here in Bad Windsheim."
At the end of the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Werner Lang and Elea Lang planted an apple tree in front of the building together with the landlords of Westkämper GmbH.
