GLASS MANUFACTURING
The main, front, and ramp mirrors required by MEKRA Lang—more than 5.5 million units in 2021, for example—are produced by Lang Technics, a company belonging to the Lang Group. Using equipment and machines specifically designed for mirror glass production, the company processed approximately 2,850 tons of float glass and 520 tons of mirror glass domes. This corresponds to 500,000 and 88,000 square meters, respectively.
The blanks for the various glass domes are produced from the two- or three-millimeter-thick glass sheets. In special furnace systems, these are heated and bent into glass domes with radii of curvature ranging from 200 to 1,200 millimeters. The domes are then coated with chromium using the Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process. Using equipment specially developed by Lang Technics, experts cut contours and trim edges. For special applications, Lang Technics removes the coating from the glass using lasers and applies symbols or markings, such as for Blind Spot Modules (BSM).
